This is definitely a dress-down look for me, more "let's go shopping" or "go to the cinema" than planning for a nice meal out in the evening. The jeans and sweatshirt are mainstay items that require no fanfare, the desert boots, jacket and scarf add style.
Then we come to the matter of the baseball cap.
I have no issues wearing one, but is it something (like sneakers) that just look scruffy on a forty plus guy?
Are baseball caps okay for men in their 40s?
My thoughts on this: I'm not sure. It's not like I'm trying to hide my face, I've just always worn baseball caps, but do they "suit" me (or someone of my age) - or do they make the wearer look like a scruffbag? As I right this post, I've realised that I've never given it that much thought before...
WHAT DO YOU FEEL ABOUT THE BASEBALL CAP AND ITS USE BY MIDDLE-AGED MEN? LET ME KNOW IN THE COMMENTS BELOW, I'M INTRIGUED...

Being American myself, I am not a fan of baseball caps in general. However, if you wear them in an un-American and stylish way, as you are here with a striped scarf and a beautiful grey jacket, then I think it works. It adds a touch of downtown cool to your look. If you wore a baseball cap with jeans and a tee shirt and white sneakers (like you made no effort!) that's when it looks scruffy to me.
ReplyDeleteI like this on you! The scarf is stunning. xx
You're so right Lisa!
DeleteI understand your sentiments completely and (now living on this side of the pond) you've seen how these caps are attached to urban trends mixed with European styles.
Enjoy the rest of your week!

I've always envied the guy that can wear a baseball cap Keith. I for one just dont have what I like to call "a hat head". No hat looks good on me im afraid. I personally like the look of a baseball cap on men and this one suits you nicely. Baseball Caps do have their place though and going for dinner in one is not the right place. lol. This is a really great look though Keith. It speaks im relaxed, comfortable in my skin and still has that dressed up look that every man should strive for. Love it.
ReplyDeleteThanks Robin, you're too kind!
DeleteI too feel very self-conscious when it comes to the decision of going with a hat or not. As you say above, it's NOT the done thing to wear a hat to dinner, (and I've seen it done) but it can work with the right outfit for other occasions. Very interesting!
Take care
Keith
I don't particularly notice or focus on the baseball cap - I think the whole look is casual and effortless. But, definitely not scruffy! 😉

Thanks Kat, you're too kind!
DeleteI like this time of year when you can layer and style in whatever way feels comfortable..

I do all of the time. I have a great collection of minor league baseball hats. I am almost 50 and don't really care what others think.
ReplyDeleteHa! Well said, I think if you wanna wear a baseball cap.. go right ahead!
ReplyDeleteFunnily enough, it just seems so natural for an American to stick one of these on and it just looks good..
Not so on this side of the pond, it must be the shape of our heads!!
Cheers
Keith
