I really wanted to get this outfit on the blog and that's why "outfit post number 2" is a classic look for most Brits. The Ben Sherman gingham shirt and Harrington jacket encompass a timeless look that can be reinvented for a new generation of "too cool for school" types... or just old geezers like myself who still have these items in their wardrobes after... ahem... several years. >>
Moving on swiftly, these items are so much a part of who I was and who I am that it's fair to say this combination is like fish and chips...or a bacon sandwich smothered in Tommy K.....the perfect combination...(anyone else hungry??)
What is your "classic look"? Do you have something that defines you and where you are from?

great classic look Keith! the gingham shirt is such a timeless piece. I think growing up and now hitting 30 my style has changed SO much that i haven't really bought anything along with me. the only thing i'd say that never seems to leave are jeans. The style sometimes changes but i will always go back to loving a great pair of jeans. I have also over the past few years loved (and still do) wearing a breton top. Going forward i can see that being the piece that stands the test of time for me. It doesn't reflect where i come from however, lol. Wales, possibly only represented by a rugby top? (of which i don't own.. letting the side down there abit i guess, lol!)
ReplyDeleteHave a great day and welcome to blogging! :)
Rachel
Thanks for the welcome Rachel, I'm looking forward to posting more and seeing where it takes me....exciting and a bit daunting at the same time. Hopefully I'll be able to inspire something for the older gent who wants to look and feel comfortable in what he is wearing.
DeleteEvery man should own a slim fit gingham shirt...! The cash with the tartan of the jacket lining is just my kinda thing. And I'm not sure whether where I come from really affects my style of dressing - it varies so much from one day to the next!

Glad it is to your liking. It's a style classic.....especially if your from London!
DeleteSlim-fitting shirts are a must, for men of all builds. My husband wears long sleeves rolled up to the elbow rather than short sleeves as these suit him better (skinny arms).
ReplyDeleteMy husband is 35, and 'northern man' of this age has a specific uniform of check shirts or striped jumpers. Various colours, weights and thicknesses. It is too funny watching the queues of men waiting for the fitting room queues, as they all tend to be clutching these!
I'm such a 90s grungster at heart and favour printed dresses, big boots, chunky bags and thick tights. Lashings of eyeliner, mad curly hair. I just cannot do the tailored look at all, so it's a good job I have a career that doesn't force me to! (I'm an academic, and I do feel old around my students as they're now all wearing the same kind of thing but in a more youthful, slimmer and smoother-skinned way!)
Love your description of the fitting room queue! You're so right about the slim-fitting shirt being a must for all men whatever their build. As for the kids today..a friend of mine showed me a picture of her son in his birthday present today.. a pair of harem pants, (it's Hammer time all over again) yeesh!
DeleteNice!! Simple and timeless.
ReplyDeleteFor me a 40+ yorkshire man and lifelong mod, my signature outfit is... brown brouge boots, dark blue jeans, denim shirt, blue cardy and beige cadual blazer. It works in every scenario.
Keep the faith Jamie, I may have to throw some talc on the kitchen floor for some northern soul classics in your honour!
