Classic menswear can be the only description of a Fred Perry and the ever-so-faultless pair of brogues! So whilst we bid fare thee well to a "not too shabby" summer, it seems fitting to kick back in a pair of two-tone brogues and put on this short sleeve British icon one more time before we all wrap up under layers of knitwear, tweed, jumpers and peacoats... at this point, folks in places such as California probably think I'm talking crazy! >>
For me, I love the change from summer to autumn, layering just because you can!
What do you look forward to in your style?
Is it a full-blown "searingly hot" summer or the type of winter where you scrape the ice off the INSIDE of the car windows.... tell me here!

Hi Keith;
ReplyDeleteIts about time us men started styling off what we like to wear and not what we are forced to wear. Perhaps it will lend a voice to those manufactures that we don't all just wear plaid. I mean plaid is ok but when that's nearly all you have to choose from it gets a bit much.
Have you ever noticed how the ladies section of your local dept store is so large (clothes a good price) and yet the men section is so small with clothes well we don't like (and overpriced might I add) that you can pass it over in the blink of an eye.
These days I cant even get a plain T shirt without some sort of print or logo on it. It just drives me mad.
And so I must say when I heard from Monika that you had started a men's style blog I thought good on you, and this is something I can support. Being born in the UK myself I know when the British start something they finish it and so I'm really looking forward to seeing some great looking styles (and where to obtain them) for us 40ish men, coupled of course with with some great British humour.
Your bertie shoes compliment this attire extremely well and I must say not many of us men can pull off a Fred Perry buttoned right up and yet you pull it off with ease. And the aviator glasses are a timeless classic that never get old, (wish they would wear that well on me).
All in all this entire outfit looks fantastic on you, and shouts I'm relaxed yet defined.
Cheers
Robin
Hi Robin,
DeleteThis conversation wouldn't go amiss sitting in a pub, over a couple of pints of Olde English Ale!!
To tell you the truth, I'm not a fan of modern branding or walking around advertising this years "must have" attire. Call me a hypocrite but I have to make an exception for a classic piece such as a Fred Perry, smart and comfortable.
As for the brogues, I could wax lyrical about their style all day long because they finish off an outfit with the right signature..they're great!
Your other point is well made regarding the menswear section at a department store, in actual fact, more often than not I'll go online to ASOS or some other relevant retailer and shop that way. Most offer free returns, so I order several types and sizes try them on in the comfort of my own home, choose the best and return the rest..sorted!!
Thanks for the comments mate, I'm off to make a cup of tea, no doubt we shall speak again!
All the best
Keith
Definitely a winter where you scrape the ice off the INSIDE of the car windows :D We also have lots of people falling, broken legs on the ice, wind that peels off the skin, all those good stuff. :D Despite all this, I like Winter, maybe because I don't go out that much :D
ReplyDeleteGreat styling, the brogues are spot on! Very much love the watch too! ^^
Hey Keit,
DeleteDang, that sounds cold!
I'm like you, I prefer the colder conditions just so I can get the "big guns" out of the wardrobe!
I don't know how you cope with the extreme cold, we don't get it that bad here really, just enough to send our public transport into utter chaos...(normally leaves on the train lines or the "wrong kind of snow"...yes that was an official statement as to why there were no trains!
Bless 'em..
Thanks for your kind words, take care!
Keith
Oh boy, Keith...I think you might have your blogger work cut out for you with my husband (see "Robin" above!!) Can you tell he loves a good rant?! Way to dress up a polo-style shirt with some smart trousers and great shoes!! P.S. You are already a total "natural" in front of the camera!!
ReplyDeletewww.StyleIsMyPudding.blogspot.com
I think this is my fave type of casual style Monika.
DeleteA really crisp pair of brogues or derbies can turn an average outfit in to something with a bit more!
As for me being a natural...oh blimey! You'd laugh at me awkwardly plodding about like something deranged with Catherine shouting...head up!...head down!!...turn left!...etc...it's very funny...
Maybe it's "payback" for when you take Catherine's photos?! ;D I know I'm really anxious to get Robin in front of the camera one of these days...he sure loves giving me direction, too!!
DeleteI love Fred Perry polo shirts - a classic, as you say! Plus if men were only allowed to wear one style of shoes ever again, it HAS to be brogues. The two-tone of these ones are fabulous... WHO chose them?!! She must have very good taste, hehe ;))
ReplyDeleteCatherine, Not Dressed As Lamb x
I can tell you she does and YES it has to be brogues every time..!
