Two Tone Mod Suit and Ben Sherman Shirt

Hi all, I just want to put it out there - I love this suit! These photos are actually what inspired me to start my blog, as they first appeared on my wife's style blog Not Dressed As Lamb in May this year. She was asked if she wanted to do something a bit different from her normal posts of styling her own everyday outfits to help inspire women of 40+ (does that sound like a certain over 40 male blogger?) and instead, style her husband in a suit and shirt. Of course I jumped at the chance!

The suit is a throwback to the classic British mod style ever-present in the Swinging Sixties, which was known for its fantastic fashion statements. I felt really comfortable wearing this two-tone suit, and the beautiful Ben Sherman shirt was quality personified. I gave it a modern twist with brogues and a flash of red (socks), which completed a really nice look for a smart evening out. >>

The gold and blue two-tone fabric is much more interesting so you know you're going to turn heads when you wear it... and isn't that the point?? All in all, I can't wait to have another occasion to wear this suit again!

Do you have some classic clothing from another decade (either vintage or reproduction) that is a must-wear in your wardrobe? Let me know!

  1. Hi Keith;

Yes this suit rocks beautifully. I love everything about it from the shoes, the splash of red on the socks, to the kerchief. And wow that shirt.... does that ever look extremely comfortable. My favorite shirt is white. You cant go wrong with a white shirt. I bet you feel like a million bucks (well pounds) lol wearing that fabulous suit.

    1. Hi Robin, you've got it exactly right. The shirt is absolute quality, which you would expect from a Ben Sherman and you can really feel it too. This two-tone suit is less regulation, (standard colour) and makes you want to experiment with it... you know, what if I pair it with this or add that...

Yeah, you could say I felt a million bucks (sounds better!).

Take care mate, speak to you again soon,

      Keith

  2. Love the way you are wearing this suit, Keith. Men should wear suits in a comfortable and natural way (like Italian men would do!) rather than "I have to wear a suit today because the occasion/job demands it!"
    The slim fit looks great!

    1. Hi Annette, more comfort, less formality...I quite agree.

A nice slim fit is much more appealing than a baggy ensemble...ironically, when you look back to greats such as Cary Grant, you couldn't imagine them in anything other than a baggy double-breasted... funny how things change isn't it!

Have a great weekend, I hope summer is holding out for you,

    1. Hey Ged, you and me both on the red. Especially when it comes to a flash of sock!

There's certainly nothing "formal" about this suit and in time-honoured tradition, you have to look at the dress culture of the sixties London mod scene to appreciate "two-tone", it was a great era for fashion and I wish I could have seen it waaaay back then..

Hope you're having a great weekend Gedster!

  4. I remember this look very well from Catherine's blog, dear Keith!! Love the mod styling of the suit - funny how everything old is new again, right?! - and the way you added some fun to the very "dressed up" feel with your red socks!!

    1. Aha!.. it's funny how a little flash of colour (socks) can add so much more character to an outfit... well spotted Monika!

I have to say, I love this suit and I have been very fortunate that Catherine was approached all those months ago about her post on this, lucky me... tee hee!

      Bye for now!
